Publisher's Description:

OBJ Import for AutoCAD - OBJ Import for AutoCAD is a Wavefront (.obj) file import plug-in for AutoCADĀ®. This plug-in gives AutoCAD the ability to import geometric data from ASCII and Binary OBJ files.

OBJ Import for AutoCAD reads polygon mesh data stored in OBJ files and imports it into AutoCAD. A polygon mesh in an OBJ file is comprised of a set of triangular/quad faces. OBJ Import for AutoCAD recreates the polygon meshes in an OBJ file inside the active AutoCAD drawing. The model can be recreated as set of points, lines, polylines, 3D faces or a polyface mesh.

OBJ Import for AutoCAD is very easy to use. Once installed, it must be loaded into the AutoCAD environment. There are simple instructions for this in the ReadMe file. Once loaded it adds new commands to AutoCAD's existing commands and a new submenu called "OBJImport" to the AutoCAD menu containing these newly added commands.

The 'OBJImport' menu consists of the following commands:

# OBJImport - Imports an OBJ file

# OBJImportHelp - Displays the OBJ Import for AutoCAD help file

# OBJImportRegister - Registers your copy of OBJ Import for AutoCAD

# OBJImportAbout - Displays the OBJ Import for AutoCAD About box

OBJ Import for AutoCAD comes with detailed documentation for each command as well as a tutorial to get you started in the shortest possible time.

Just a review

I haven't gotten to know AutoCad all that well, being a Maya guy. But my team and I needed to find files that could transfer into something that the 3D printers could understand. And dwg was the most common.

3D printing is on the rise, and having these options out there for the public really helps AutoCAD stay in the loop when it comes to the more creative aspect of the 3D industry.

I haven't actually converted *.ma into *.obj into *.dwg into *.stp yet. But there sure is a piece of mind that comes with knowing its possible.

Thanks for providing one of the links in the chain.
